JUNE

If you open the second photo, I think you can see what the feigned innocent look is about.   OOPS!  I mean - - If you open the second photo, you will see about what the feigned look is.  Now, is that really better, miss grammar queen?  :-)

Our usual good fare, but a couple of diners seem a bit apprehensive about something on their plates.

Doretha made this wonderful cake just in my honor.  Dee lish ee mus!  Thank you Doretha.

Shirley chose an 8" size of this star pattern for her block.  She supplied the blue flannel and made scrappy snowball blocks to set  it.  She asked for bright contrasting stars and her friends came through. (is that another *%$# preposition?)

MAY

Oooops. Susie had a delay, so Judy had to
blow her candle for her.

While the food is being laid out, Doretha gives Sandra a "consult" on her fabric choice for the upcoming retreat project.  Just one of the nice things about this group.

This beautiful drunkards path block is fresh off Cindy's quilting machine, and delivered in time for Judy's birthday.

Our favorite part of the party!

A "pretty" turnout for Judy and Susie's birthday.

We neglected to photograph Judy's blocks "laid out", so she had to wear her swirl pattern for the picture.

Susie used a black background to highlight the fall leaf pattern she chose for her birthday wish.

APRIL

Still a kid, Pam.

Tell us all Joyce!
And those Bobbsey twins again!  Did you know their first names?   (Not Linda and Cindy, the real Bobbsey twins!)  There were two sets actually.  The older twins were Bert and Nan, and the younger set were Flossie and Freddie.  Now - - you are ready to play trivia!

Pam and Susie start the food line.  Judy is our mostess hostess this month and as usual, our potluck food would rival any church picnic.

Take a close look at these folks.  They do NOT want to be interrupted for any picture.

Awww.  A rose between two thorns . . . . . or could that be turned around the other way?

Colorful cake for a colorful birthday girl.  Cindy our working girl who schedules lunch with us once a month, is co-hostess and brought the cake.

Pam with her "purty" purple blocks.

MARCH

Happy Birthday Sandra!

Some of us are enjoying visiting before everyone arrives.

Debbie  makes sure everything is on the buffet, being the co-hostess for Sandra's party.

Sandra leads the food line as she is the only birthday girl this month.

This table has a fine view of the new spring season.

It was a fine meal as usual and now - - -  time for the cake.

Sandra chose one of the more popular patterns for our group this year.  Watch the Show and Tell page for different settings, as this group is very creative.

FEBRUARY

 Happy Birthday Brenda

The birthday girls start the food line.

Pam makes sure everything is on the buffet, being the hostess for Brenda's party.

Food line.

I'm sure there is a good explanation.
You can open your eyes now Brenda.

"Hail, Hail........"

Was it something Debbie said, or the singing?

Brenda chose an 8" star pattern and asked for geometric prints as she plans to make this quilt for a grandson.

JANUARY

 Happy Birthday Debbie and Cindy

The birthday girls start the food line.

Cindy displays a clean plate.  Nothing unusual for one of these affairs.  Have I ever noted that good quilters are also good cookers?

And the reward for those cleans plates.  White Chocolate.

Again......What a lovely bunch of ...........  I have a great sense of deja vu as I look back at Novembers birthday party.

Cindy got two of these very pink blocks from each of us.  Her request was for pink batiks.   She plans on using them with that bright flamingo print she is holding.

We were full of suggestions to Debbie about how to set these simple blocks from "Combing Through Your Scraps".  The black and white combinations are elegant, and several had so much fun making them they didn't stop until they made 4 or more!  I think she should appliqué a dramatic red flower across the blocks.  It will be fun to see it put together.

DECEMBER

Sandra seems delighted with Carol's cake.

We had the business of distributing next years block requests, and that always creates a flurry of activity.

Row robin blocks covered the floors in every room of the house.  Here everyone admires Debbie's long panels.  Look on the special projects page for further row robin photos.

Besides birthday blocks, Carol got her row robin blocks today also.  Her beach scene theme is going to be cheerful.

Carol's block choice was placemats!  A neat idea.  She said she wanted them for her lake house table and particularly to practice machine quilting since they are a handy size.

The 2005-06 Birthday Block Group

NOVEMBER

Mmmmmmm!  White Chocolate.  Happy Birthday Anne.

The birthday girls start the food line.

This  tiger roared as the photo was taken.  Ramona claims its a pussy cat but it is obviously the monarch here.

Today was the day we brought blocks in for next years request.  We are using several options instead of "free choice" this year.  Pam has a sample of a cool looking tessellation pattern.

It is so nice to welcome Doretha to the birthday group.  Carol is taking this year off, already missing this good food, and Shirley is just grinning.

What a lovely Bunch of .........

Most of Anne's Maple Leaf blocks are accounted for.  Watch the show and tell page to see how she might set them.

OCTOBER

The birthday girls start the food line.

Table 1.  Only one mischief maker here, and it's her birthday.

The last time we ate out here it "came up a storm".  Scroll down to June.  But in October it was perfect.  We are happy to note that Doretha has joined our group.

It's just as well you don't know what Anne is laughing about.  Louise is our hostess and if she has finally sit down, that means the plates on the other tables are about empty.

This group has it all.  Talent, good looks . . . . . . Note the library quilts in the hallway.  Three wonderful memory quilts for Louise's family.  For a closer look, go to the October section of the show and tell page.

Shhhh.  Don't tell Rhonda this is on here (the site).  It is her Christmas gift making its debut.  Be sure to enlarge it to enjoy the blocks.

Judy, (don't ask) asked for high contrast in her block.  It looks like we delivered.

Aggie's tilted star pattern is super simple and super sweet in these 30's reproduction fabrics she chose, and provided for us make her block.

Linda's Two Sisters block is large enough that she has a whole quilt ready to assemble.

SEPTEMBER

Happy Birthday Dear Susan

A wonderful variety of good food to enjoy with friends of like mind, at elegant tables that Judy has prepared for us.

"The Boobsy Twins"
Oops!  They went to the same sale!.

Wait up Anne!  You can't sing without us!  I think Weze is not singing but admiring.

Susan waits to admire this gorgeous cake for a bit, before blowing out the candles.

Susan had asked for traditional blocks in red and white to complement the red work embroidery block that she has.  It was interesting that she got a repeat of two blocks.  Can you see them?

A rare thing in our monthly group.  A meeting!  It is already time to think about gathering the block we want for next year.  This year we are going to try a limited number of selections, and have decided to make two blocks per birthday person.

AUGUST

Little Cake with a BIG question mark.
Joyce is ageless, as well as, priceless.

Joyce is ready for the good part.

Uh-oh, there is one disgruntled customer back there.  She is probably worried about her share of Judy's "too good to be good for you" green bean dish.

I'm trying to figure out if Linda has the most left on her plate because of being last, eating slowest, or already having 2nds!!

After serving us delicious cheese cake and coffee, Linda our hostess, is busy cleaning up after us.

Joyce with a few of her birthday blocks.  Several couldn't be with us today but their blocks will join these shortly, along with a fat quarter, as is our tradition if we are late getting the block to the birthday person.  You can see that Joyce gave out two patterns and has a great start on two quilts.

I thought you might want a close up view of the Hunter's Star that Joyce used.  It is not for the faint hearted to piece.  Isn't that a grand secondary pattern it makes, as seen on the background.

JULY

Note Ramona got a coloring book with her cake.

Enjoying waiting on some of the "late" food.

It's Ramona's birthday, and we all agree with the sash.

One of the best parts

Wonder who started the tradition of the beautiful, delicious birthday cake.  We need a holiday to honor them!!  And serve cake of course.

What's with that pair?  I think they said in unison:  "I can't believe you ate the WHOLE thing?

Can you say beautiful maple leaves?  Ramona supplied the background fabric and ask each of us to use some of our batik stash for the leaf.  It's gonna be pretty.

JUNE

Is that pretty or what?

Good food, good friends.  Happy birthday to me.

"On the other hand!"

When the cameraman says "smile!", that Florence gets serious.

There seems to be some grooming issues before this shot is taken.  Parker is amused about his granna-mama being the recipient of such stuff for a change instead of himself!

Just wait until you see these set in a quilt.  This scrappy pattern is typical of something Shirley would choose.  It was from a free pattern web site, and the finished quilt is called, "Prairie Moon".  You can email Shirley if you want more specifics about where she found it
.

May

Susan looks as pleased presenting the cake, as Susie does receiving it.

There was entertainment too!  While we waited for room in the food line, we could watch slide shows of many of the Paducah quilts.  Louise took a lot of good pictures for those of us who couldn't go to the convention this year.

It was a dark and stormy - - - afternoon.  Weze, Susan and Shirley soon moved this act inside.

This was a lunch meal, but look how dark it is out there!  Don't study this photo too hard, or you will get hungry.

Happy Birthday Susie.

Hmmm?  Two different blocks.  I think Suzie ordered a  few blocks from her last years selection, as well as this cute churn dash pattern.  She supplied us with the fabric, and there is a lucky ba-bee in the picture somewhere.

April Birthdays

I think they had a strategy.
You'd think there were enough candles on there for both their birthdays the way they are approaching it, wouldn't you?

Sandra and Pam lead the way for our feast.  I think everyone brought their favorite dishes for their birthday.

Once again we enjoy our big meal of the day.  It's sort of like Thanksgiving once a month.  Most of us need a nap as soon as we get home.

It was a beautiful Alabama day and these ladies decided to enjoy it.  I can't tell if they just happened to be taking a drink, or if they were proposing a toast.  Well, "Here's to Cindy", I guess.

I cannot explain Abby's clean plate, because I saw her in line didn't you?

Sandra and Pam look as if they can't believe that Susie brought them cake.  Or maybe they are in wonder at the singing.  :-)

This photo is missing four ladies.  I see the fried chicken and the pineapple cobbler are missing for a couple.

Isn't Sandra's quilt striking?  She supplied the fabric for this since she wanted a two tone quilt top, and we paper pieced it.   You can tell by the wallpaper on this section that the secondary pattern sort of looks like the wheel of mystery.  Sandra hasn't really settled on how she will lay the blocks out though.

Pam was excited about the batiks that everyone chose for her block.  If she places them on point like she says she might, there are enough for a whole quilt top.  Besides there are some missing ones from the ladies who planned to attend and couldn't.

March Birthdays

"Louise!  Louise!  It's blow OUT, not suck in!"

Uh oh.  They are both eying the mocha piece.  That's the trouble with multiple choice.  Susie seems to be enjoying this dilemma.

Everything from 'beans and taters' to artichoke casserole plus much more is on these plates.  Well not MUCH more, because of the dainty portions.    BTW - our hostess Pam is so efficient she has started decorating for Christmas well in advance. :-)

Table 2.  Pleasant lunch group.

Did you see the pictures of the cakes??  Well some in  this  group are not chipper because they are waiting for this to be snapped to get their cake.

No, I don't think it's because she is shy.  I think it is because these blocks are so bright they hurt her eyes!  Debbie supplied us all with bright batiks to make the 16" Two Sisters  block.  If you look around this site you will see this suits Debbie's style.  The 3 B's.  Big block, big colors, batiks.

You just think it is Déjà vu.  This time the library quilt is a family one.  A lot of sleuthing and inside accomplices found Barker family pictures that were printed to fabric and embellished.  Look towards the pillow to see Weze's high school photo! The detail photo is of her late Father a few decades ago, and the book titles are some of his "isms".  The clock on that shelf is showing 2:00.  No accident, as that is the hour that  Weze's Latte Shoppe opens three days a week!

Nice Surprise! Pat, Cindy's mom was in town on Birthday Lunch Day.  Pat is a former member of our group and has moved off to Florida.

Just look at this beautiful quilt Pam  finished several months ago and that Cindy (Cinnamon Dreams) quilted.  Judy certainly intends to.   :-)

Ladies, ladies!!

Free For All

We had a free swap night, and the free for all turned into a free for all!!

February Birthday Group

Due to travels and the calendar, we didn't have a birthday to celebrate or blocks to make.  Does that stop us from having an "eatin' meetin'"?  We even had a distinguished guest with us.  Mr. Jim (Dean) Foy, as in Foy Student Union at Auburn University.

January Birthdays

♫♪♫♪

♫♪♫♪

I can think of a dozen captions for this, but you all help me out.  :-D

The birthday celebrants and hostess.  Well actually Sandra is the hostess but because of a distance issue we met at Debbie's house.

Actually it is Debbie's birthday month as well, but we won't celebrate it until March.  But she is singing her heart out for Cindy and Florence.  I think they are tickled by her gusto.

Note the worried look on Cindy's and Weze's  faces.   Be sure to enlarge the next photo.

These two are not quitters!!  Look at the smoke in the room.  Somehow some trick candles got mixed up in the pantry or Sandra's basket.

Florence is inspecting her leaf blocks that we made for her.  Yep, she likes them.  More arrived after the photo.

Cindy ordered larger blocks with a Halloween motif.  Nobody is going to be scared though, they are so cute.

And CA huffed and puffed - -

DECEMBER Birthday Party

Anne is rolling up her sleeves for the task ahead.

The group sings to Carol with "Gusto".  Shirley chose multiple choice cheese cakes for Carol's birthday treat.

Take a look at those Cardinal's outside the window.  Eyeing that fruitcake no doubt.

It's hard to think of a better pastime than eating great food and visiting with friends.

Joyce handed out the new birthday wish packets today, and is tickled that job is behind her.  Thank you Joyce.

Come on Carolyn and Susie. There is one more piece of cheese cake on the table.

Aggie is checking the new packet of birthday wishes for 2006.  Carolyn is testing the quilt the guild gave her last month as a token of, our sadness that she is moving, and our gladness for an upcoming happy new chapter in her very productive life.  We were just now able to "catch" her to present it.

"Hail!  Hail! The Gangs All Here"

Carol is probably already picturing how she "set" these spool blocks she chose last year for us to make.

NOVEMBER Birthday Party

Uh - - Can you see the candles even flicker?
With THREE of them blowing?  Well, neither Anne, Carolyn, or Aggie are very windy.

It looks like the food line has already started.

The plates are empty and there is that accompanying "sated" look about some of them.  Ahhh.

 .
This table appears ready for cake too.

Ramona must have inquired about cake preferences because that is a multiple flavored cake.  A sample of each please.

Aggie chose a large block of black and white cottons, each block a different traditional pattern.  You can name about five of them just from the thumbnail photo.

Anne's Christmas blocks look ready to be assembled.  I see a partridge in a pear tree in the right corner.  But I can't see how the alternate blocks are going to fit.  What's up Anne?  And the other set of blocks??  They must be Carolyn's and no picture of her with them!  But I did find a photo of her with another of her beautiful quilts and used it for the wallpaper.

OCTOBER Birthday Party

Linda starts the food line as the guest of honor.  Florence is our hostess. Looks scrumde-delicious again.

Florence shows her current work in progress.  This pretty yellow and blue is from a class she is taking at Kudzu, our nearest quilt shop.  That would be a nice pattern for a workshop I think.

T

Table 2 is NOT a picture of decorum.

As a matter of fact - - - -

Things have settled down enough in here that we can now sing to Linda.

Happy Birthday Linda.  We're blessed to share it with you.

Oh, you may have noticed.  Cindy couldn't be with us today.  At least they untied her.

The Two Sisters Blocks that Linda chose already cover a bed.  She might even get two if she sets them on point.

SEPTEMBER Birthday Party

Susan, our birthday girl, is leading the way to our usual good feast.

Hi.  We're here to wish Susan G. a very happy birthday.

Whoa! Take a look at that cake Sandra is serving Susan.  It conjures up memories to my taste buds.

This is the second year Susan has chosen this sweet little friendship star block.  It is going to be a pretty quilt.

JULY Birthday Party

One of the several things this group is good at.  Enjoying each others company.

Happy Birthday Dear Ramo- ona!!  Does anyone know a font with music notes?

One day soon, I will put this photo by the finished quilt.  You will be surprised.  These fabrics weire "delicious" to work with.

JUNE Birthday Party

Wow!  What a cake Louise has - uh - provided for Shirley

   .

It looks like someone made the phone call that said wear pink !  Some of them weren't home.

Can you believe that any one would believe that Carolyn or Shirley could sport horns? Oh, I bet Cindy was indicating double halo stands!

You just can't beat good friends and good food in combination. Mmmm?- -   Linda, didn't I just see you eating at table 1?

It was nice to have Sandy as a guest today.  I wonder if she can remember the joke she must be telling in this picture.  I can tell it had a great punch line!!

Just to share the beauty of Debbie's Hydrangeas.  I took a big bouquet off her bushes for my birthday.  Jane S. made this quilt last year, or I would think she used this bush for a pattern.

.

I Know this table has been pictured before.  I just wanted you to see how good the food looks and that we EACH have a gardenia at our place setting.  What a classy birthday party.

.

I'm glad we have this photo because Joyce was the photographer today, and Florence wasn't in the other pictures.

.

Wonder what this mystery quilter has to hide??

.

Thank you for my lovely tumbling blocks.  You know this is not the first time you have made them for me.  I have always wanted this quilt but know I would never handle that many little pieces on my own.

APRIL Birthdays

Linda and Louise at Judy's

Don't enlarge this picture if you are hungry.

Don't notice the bad picture of Pam.  Look at the great food and azaleas.

Linda is such a trend setter.  Look for a run on single boots.

Weze and Linda EACH had a cake.  We waddled out of Judy's house.  Judy must have stripped that gorgeous Azalea bush for us.

Nice group but we are missing about five.  It was the tenors we missed during the birthday song.

A turn of the century quilt by an unknown person or persons.  Wouldn't they be tickled by how many people have admired it.

Bob's great-uncle was a physician in Prattville and this was his payment by one of his patients.

Judy has a wonderful collection of antique quilts.  Each one is worth a "spread" of it's own. (so to speak) We will have to settle for a group shot of them in this space.

Weze ask for Amish blocks this year.  It seems she is promoting her block theme with a fashion statement. It could catch on.

Instant quilt.  That is what Linda has with all these big Bear's Paw blocks.

MARCH Birthday Party

Susie is the song leader for Sandra and Pam.
.

That spread is enough to make you hungry via the photo. And in spite of what Cindy indicates these two birthday girls are "angelic".

.

The Siamese twins are wondering when their cake is going to appear.

.

The twins decided to seperate to blow out the candles. Happy Birthday Pam and Sandra. .

.

I've looked and looked for "Waldo" (Weze) and she isn't in any of these pictures. She must have taken her plate to the porch to eat.

.

Sandra's block is large enough that she nearly has a Christmas quilt. We all enjoyed her granddaughter Elizabeth's visit. Do we see a future quilter.

.

Pam used the Combing Through Your Scraps block. I like this arrangement of the half square triangle.

Good job Florence!!

2005  FEBRUARY

..

We learn a lot from each other while we are waiting for lunch. Some of it even about quilting.

Florence being the birthday girl, gets to be first in line. There will soon be a stampede behind her.

...

The usual suspects.

.

We have a guest at today's lucheon. Nice to have you Cindy Y. Cindy makes our 3rd Cindy in the guild.

Take a look at the nice centerpiece on the dining room table. Also notice the very beautiful "centerpieces" on all the plates. Each month the food seems to get prettier and better.

Judy REALLY wants to know the secret that Louise is holding out. Weze prides herself on being able to keep a secret. She really shouldn't have boasted about that in front of Judy. I think it was about an upcoming project. Ask Judy. I'm sure she knows now. ;-)

...

There was not a crumb left of this huge cake except for the piece Carolyn cut ahead of time for Beasley. It was scrumdileeishus. Or something like that. Return to the photo at the top of this section to see the singers and cheerleaders.

This is the 2nd year that Florence chose this block. I think she will have enough for at least two twin beds.

.

Carolyn, our mostess hostess, laid out two of these quilts that she made for two college grandchildren. I think she recently got them back from Cindy W. who quilted them with red thread! Smashing. It is from that "Combing Through Your Scraps" book. If you go to the very bottom of this page you can see the block as a March birthday wish.

JANUARY Birthday Party

Happy Birthday Cindy and Debbie

Debbie and Cindy start the food line. They seem excited to be the first in line.

There is a lot more food than what is pictured. Delicious as usual.

Pam our hostess delivers a mostess multiple choice birthday cake.

A smaller group than usual but still plenty of harmony.

Debbie admires her tree blocks. She plans to make a "wilderness" type quilt in honor of their Alaskan vacation. These blocks should be a good start on that plan. This is Debbie's first year with the birthday group and we are so glad to have her.

Cindy has reserved these jungle or animal print blocks for a quilt to donate an auction. I'll tell you which auction later.

DECEMBER Birthday Party

Our Pretty birthday girl gets to start the food line.

I see Carol our birthday person is not in the room. I think they are discussing how old she is.

Linda and Aggie enjoy a little chat time before the festivities begin. Although she was getting pretty good on crutches, it is good to see Aggie on her feet again.

Can't you just hear the harmony? Wonder what they are singing. Not a million dollar question.

I think it was only last month that Pam was helping blow out the candles for Carolyn Zeanah. She really gets into this birthday thing.

Carol's "Buckeye Beauty" block looks good in the 1930's repro fabrics. She nearly has enough for a quilt.

Below are photo's and explanations of the blocks wished for by the birthday person and the month they are to be delivered to the birthday party.

January

February

MARCH Birthdays

Pam's wish is nothing new to us. We made this same light/dark block for Carolyn and Cindy last year

APRIL Birthdays

Sandra has provided everything we need for this paper pieced clover.

These samples of the library blocks that Louise wants are suggestions.  She even suggests that you go look at your own book cases for ideas.  How do you piece dust bunnies?

MAY Birthdays

Susie wants a churn dash in these pretty baby fabrics.  She has provided everything we need to make this 12" block.

JUNE Birthday

You are probably familiar with this block by now.  Shirley has chosen a smaller size and has provided the background fabric.  She gives instructions for a simpler construction with fewer seams to make piecing easier AND quilting easier.

JULY Birthdays

Ramona is providing all the fabric.

AUGUST Birthdays

Joyce wants Pansies. Read the paper

SEPTEMBER Birthdays

Susan's block is a double friendship star. She is supplying the background

OCTOBER Birthdays

Aggie has supplied all the fabric for this Shooting Star Block.
She is using reproduction fabrics on muslin and it is basically a 12" nine patch.

.Linda's block is "Sister's Choice". She has detailed instructions.

NOVEMBER Birthdays

DECEMBER Birthdays

Carol A. wants to practice her hand quilting, and had the great idea for each of us to make her a placemat for the lake cabin, and they would be a nice small size to 'tote' around in the car etc.  She gave a size as our only restriction/guideline. That clip has nothing to do with a suggestion, but it would be cute.

Have fun with the blocks. If you have any questions be sure to call on the birthday girls for answers.
