May 15, 2008 Minutes

Omajean called the meeting to order.

New Business

Charity Quilts -Susie attended a luncheon/banquet held by Hospice and received a plaque presented to our Guild in recognition of the contributions made.  The guild also received a very nice thank you card from the EAMC Foundation.

Charity workshop scheduled for May 31st.

Website Updates - Cathy B. announced that the website is under reconstruction. Some links are still available while others may not be functioning at the moment. Suggestions for improving the website should be sent to Cathy and Shirley.

When the revamped website is complete, members will need to perform functional checks and advise either Cathy or Shirley of items not working properly.  

Library Corner News - Louise announced there are 3 new additions to the collection.

CBQG February Meeting
February 21, 2008 Minutes

Meeting called to order by Omajean.

Old Business

Anne reminded members of the planned road trips. 03/01 Tuscaloosa; 03/08 Bulloch Hall in Roswell, GA; information will be on the e-group

Name Tag Id’s: The Guild will supply the vinyl for members to make identification nametags to wear at meetings. Members should supply all other materials.

New Business

Retreat Challenge Packets-3 available; contact Doretha

The retreat will be open to non-members after 3/21/08. There are currently 20 registered participants.

2008 memberships directories are available and ready for distribution.

Omajean received a letter from the producer of the play, The Crazy Quilt Club that will be performed by the Auburn Area Community Theater beginning April 11th.  The letter is a request for the CBQG members to provide items of interest to display and use as props during the performances.   

2008 Challenge

Cathy reviewed and gave instructions for the crayon colors guild challenge. Details will be posted on the e-group.

Show & Tell

Program

Members introduced themselves and shared their favorite tool(s). 

Crayon colors were selected for individuals that chose to participate in the challenge.

January 17, 2008 Minutes

Omajean called the meeting to order.

Membership forms and dues were distributed and collected by Pat. She also had Retreat 2008 interest forms available.

Welcomed visitors Marliese Thomas and Terri Wolf who both joined CBQG.

New Year’s Activities

Cathy B. reviewed current slate of programs for upcoming year. Volunteers are needed program on Crazy Quilt stitching.  Although there are plans for most months, including quilted clothing, Trash to Treasures, Ice Cream Party, and an EQ overview, there are a couple of open slots and nothing is set in stone. Please submit any ideas to Cathy and/or Pam. 2008 Guild challenge will be announced at February meeting; Brown Bag challenge in March.

Old Business

Charity Quilts: Susie stated that 54 quilts were donated to Bethany House in 2007 and over a dozen to the Violence Center (with the help of Joann’s Distribution Ctr). A JDC rep will attend an upcoming meeting.

New Business

Susie gave a reminder for the Mystery Quilt. Tops should be ready for the Show & Tell feature in February. It is not necessary to have the project quilted. Susie also brought fat quarters for anyone who had participated in preparing 2007’s charity quilts.  

Comfort Quilts - Cindy R. could used more 6 ½” blocks. The main blocks are 4 patch and heart or flower blocks are used as accents.  They can be pieced or appliquéd. Orphan blocks are also accepted. Bring any that you would like to donate to the meetings for Cindy. Each quilt requires approx. 108 blocks.

Education - Anne D. has scheduled Bonnie Hunter for a workshop Wednesday 10/15. She will attend the October meeting the following day. Details for the workshop will be posted on the CBQG website. More information on Bonnie can be found at www.quiltville.com

Several road trips/quilt shows were announced.  All information is listed on the CBQG website. Anne will follow up her announcements with an email to the e-group as suggested by Omajean. ***

***Omajean requests that people email their meeting announcements to the Yahoo Group so that those not in attendance are provided with information shared at meetings. This also gives a written account of what is mentioned so that any member can refer to it when needed.

Retreat 2008-May 16-18th Hours will be 1:00pm Friday to 12 noon Sunday. Doretha suggests for participant to bring more projects than they can possibly complete. Dinner on Friday is on your own. The remaining meals are included with the fee. The gym will close at 10pm each evening. Cost is $115-members $120.00 non-members. Fees are due by the March meeting. April 16th is the deadline for refunds.

Doretha has 5-6 UFO kits available if you’d like to participate in the challenge. Those with “tops only” completed will have (1) one chance to win a prize; those with completed quilts will have (2) chances.

Library Corner News-Louise announced there are ~ 100 new library books. Linda Bayse is sharing her collection with the guild. An updated list is available on the website. The collections will be cataloged and kept separately and all available for “check-out”.

ID Holders-It was suggested that members wear name badges at meetings. Omajean will try to locate some kits for people to make their own if interested.

Omajean presented Julie with a plaque to commemorate her year as president 2007.

Linda Bayse asked if anyone was interested in preparing an advent calendar quilt similar to the one shown at the 2007 Christmas party.

Julie S. mentioned a possible canoe trip as a social outing. More details to come.
